Plot Summary

Andy and Barney are forced to work late doing inventory and end up saddled with "The Fun Girls" from Mount Pilot--Skippy and Daphne. They end up in hot water when they are caught by Helen and Thelma Lou, who drop by for an unannounced visit. Now with no dates for the big dance, Barney decides they will take Skippy and Daphne, who dump our heroes for Gomer and cousin Goober.

Odd Facts Known by Few

  • There's a goof in this episode: Andy and Barney mention that it is 7:30 p.m. early in the episode. Later in the episode (after visits from Helen, Thelma Lou, Gomer, Goober, and the Fun Girls), when Andy and Barney agree to take the Fun Girls home it is still daylight outside. Since Thelma Lou and Helen's movie is already over it must be at least 9:30 p.m., which should have been dark by then.
  • The girls go to see a Cary Grant movie. Goober does his Cary Grant impersonation. However, the poster at the theatre advertises the movie as "Starring Gary Grant" instead of Cary.
  • This is the only episode that features Gomer and Goober together.
  • Actor Dick Winslow appeared in the movie "The Shootist".
  • This episode introduced Gomer's cousin, Goober. In Episode 150, "TV or NOT TV," Andy introduces him as Goober Beasley. In all following episodes his name was Goober Pyle.
